Ductwork Design & Static Pressure Balancing in the Tulsa Metro
If some rooms are always too hot or too cold, the problem may not be your equipment. It may be your ducts. We redesign, retrofit and balance ductwork so air gets where your home needs it.
Hot and cold rooms
One room is always warmer or cooler than the rest, no matter where you set the thermostat.
Weak or noisy vents
Some vents barely blow while others whistle or roar. Both point to airflow problems in the duct system.
Dusty, stuffy house
Leaky return ducts can pull in dust and hot attic air, making the house dusty and harder to cool.
High bills, worn parts
Ducts that choke airflow make equipment work harder, raising bills and wearing out motors and compressors early.
Static pressure, explained simply
Think of your duct system like a garden hose. If you pinch the hose, water still comes out, but the pump has to push much harder. Static pressure is how hard your blower has to push to move air through the filter, coil and ducts.
Every system has a range it is designed to work in. When ducts are too small, crushed or tangled, or the filter is too restrictive, pressure climbs. Airflow drops, rooms get uncomfortable, and the blower and compressor wear out sooner. We measure it with a gauge, so we work from real numbers, not guesses.
Common duct problems we find
Many homes in Sapulpa and Tulsa have duct systems that were never quite right, or that were changed during a remodel. Attics here get extremely hot in summer, so leaks and thin insulation cost more than you might think.
- Undersized supply or return ducts
- Not enough return air for the size of the system
- Disconnected, crushed or kinked flex duct
- Leaky joints and seams in the attic or crawlspace
- Poorly insulated ducts that sweat or lose heat
- Added rooms without enough supply air
Redesigns, retrofits and balancing
Sometimes the fix is small, like adding a return, resizing a run or sealing leaks. Other times, the best answer is a partial or full redesign that matches the duct system to the equipment and the house.
After the work, we balance the system by adjusting dampers and checking airflow so each room gets its share. Every new system we install also gets a static-pressure check and balancing, because new equipment on bad ducts can't deliver what it promises.
Honest recommendations
We will show you the readings and explain what they mean before suggesting any work. If your ducts are in good shape, we will tell you. If a simpler fix gets you most of the way there, we will start there. That is how we treat our own family, and it is how we treat yours.
Ductwork Design & Static Pressure Balancing FAQ
Why is one room in my house always hot?
Common causes are a long or undersized duct run, a crushed or disconnected duct in the attic, too little return air, or a room with lots of sun and windows. Rooms over garages and add-ons are frequent problem spots. We measure airflow and static pressure to find the real cause before suggesting a fix.
What is static pressure in HVAC?
Static pressure is the resistance your blower pushes against to move air through the filter, coil and ductwork. It works a lot like blood pressure: too high means the system is straining. High static pressure reduces airflow, hurts comfort and efficiency, and can shorten the life of your blower motor and compressor.
Can bad ductwork raise my energy bills?
Yes. Leaky ducts in a hot attic can lose some of the air your system just cooled before it ever reaches your rooms, and restrictive ducts make the system run longer to keep up. Sealing, resizing and balancing can help your existing equipment work the way it was designed to.
Do I need new ductwork when I replace my system?
Not always. Many homes can reuse existing ducts with some repairs. We check static pressure and inspect the ducts on every install. If they are restrictive, leaky or undersized for the new system, we'll show you what we found and explain your options, from small fixes to a full redesign.
Will a better air filter hurt my airflow?
It can. High-MERV filters catch more particles but can also add resistance, especially in thin 1-inch sizes. On a system with tight ducts, that can push static pressure too high. A deeper media filter cabinet often gives you better filtration without choking airflow. We can test your system and recommend the right setup.
